“The Journey of the Constitution” has also arrived in Assisi. The traveling exhibition celebrated the 70th birthday of the Constitutional Charter in the Umbrian city at the Sala Pinacoteca in Palazzo dei Priori. The exhibition was open from November 12 to 28. The project is sponsored by the Prime Minister ‘s Office and coordinated by the Mission Structure for Anniversaries of National Interest.
The Assisi stage, number eleven, is dedicated toArticle 11 of the Constitution and the theme of Peace.
“Italy repudiates war as an instrument of offense against the freedom of other peoples and as a means of settling international disputes; it consents, on equal terms with other states, to the limitations of sovereignty necessary for an order that ensures peace and justice among nations; it promotes and favors international organizations directed to that end.”
Each of the project cities is associated with one of the first twelve articles, bearing the basic principles, and the pivotal theme inspired by it. The purpose is to promote a useful discussion to guide students and citizens in understanding the historical and cultural value of the Constitutional Charter.
The traveling exhibition on the Constitution, with free admission, is enriched with graphic and multimedia insights. At the end of the tour, visitors renewed their adherence to the Constitutional Charter with a symbolic act: the affixing of a “virtual” signature next to that of the Constituent Fathers.
The theme “Peace,” associated with this eleventh stage, will be explored in depth on Nov. 21, at 11:30 a.m., at the Sala degli Emblemi, Palazzo dei Priori, as part of the “Dialogues on the Constitution” meeting curated by Editori Laterza.
On the 70th Anniversary of the Italian Constitution, this project aims to trace a symbolic path between the birth of the Republic and the present day. The project created a representative space open to citizenship. At the end of the stage, the Constitution will continue its final journey to the city Reggio Emilia.
