Night Run Monzino on September 5 presented at CityLife, with prevention taking centre stage
The 9th edition of the 5K and 10K non-competitive run conceived by Centro Cardiologico Monzino returns to Milan at CityLife on Saturday, September 5. In the afternoon, the “Villaggio del Cuore” will open to promote healthy lifestyles ahead of Giornata Mondiale del Cuore (September 29).
Five or ten kilometres at whatever pace you prefer, beneath the towers of CityLife in Milan, to spread a simple and direct message: getting active is the first step towards protecting heart health.
On Saturday, September 5, at 7:30 pm, the 9th Night Run Monzino will kick off in Milan’s futuristic district. Conceived by Centro Cardiologico Monzino IRCCS and organised by Friesian Team and Sportitude, the event is an evening of sport open to everyone – runners, walkers, families and four-legged friends – offering the opportunity to enjoy the city park while combining wellbeing, fun and awareness.
A commitment that beats at the heart of the Villaggio del Cuore
Created to raise awareness across the city about healthy lifestyles, Night Run Monzino traditionally paves the way for initiatives linked to Giornata Mondiale del Cuore on September 29. Centro Cardiologico Monzino will put the spotlight on cardiovascular prevention with the new edition of Milano Heart Week: a unique initiative extending awareness activities over more than a week through meetings, events, outdoor activities and conversations with leading voices.
From early Saturday afternoon, September 5, CityLife Park will come alive with the “Villaggio del Cuore”, an area open to the public where cardiologists and specialists from Monzino will be available to provide practical advice, health information and guidance on everyday cardiovascular prevention.
During today’s presentation at CityLife Shopping District, Prof. Giulio Pompilio, Direttore Scientifico Monzino, said: “Heart health and physical activity support each other, both when we are in great shape and when we have a few health issues. We need to dispel the misconception that people should avoid sport if they have a heart condition or as they get older. Physical activity is always beneficial, with cardiological supervision when appropriate. The body is like a car and the heart is its engine. It is a high-performance engine that needs to be kept active rather than constantly running at minimum speed. Aerobic exercise, such as running or brisk walking, is ideal training. As well as being enjoyable and social, it also provides an extra incentive to get out and discover our local area.”
“Renewing our support for Night Run Monzino means continuing a commitment that puts people, wellbeing and quality of life at the centre. We believe that collaboration between companies, citizens and centres of excellence such as Centro Cardiologico Monzino can help raise awareness of the importance of prevention and wellbeing, generating a positive impact for the entire community,” commented Valentina Magi, Direttrice Marketing di Ricoh Italia.
“Night Run Monzino is an event that perfectly reflects how we want CityLife Park to be experienced: as an inclusive space that welcomes people and provides tangible opportunities to get active, spend time together and take care of their wellbeing. We are also delighted to have Il Monzino as part of the event, as we share the same values of sport and prevention,” said Roberto Russo, Amministratore Delegato di SmartCityLife.
Marika Femiani, Shopping Centre Marketing Manager CityLife Shopping District, added: “We are delighted to welcome Night Run Monzino back to CityLife Shopping District again this year. Events like this help make our spaces vibrant places that are open to the city and capable of encouraging opportunities for people to come together and focus on wellbeing. Supporting an initiative that combines sport, prevention and participation is a tangible way for us to contribute to enhancing the local area and the community that experiences CityLife every day.”
Massimo Mapelli of A&C Consulting, event organiser, said: “We already have more than 1,000 registrations, with online registration closing this evening and several groups expected to confirm their participation shortly. We are therefore set to reach the sold-out figure of 1,250 participants, 20% more than last year. It is a result that seemed unlikely given the timing, so close to the end of the summer holidays and while schools are still closed.
We look forward to welcoming everyone to the Villaggio in Piazza Tre Torri, with stands from Centro Cardiologico Monzino IRCCS dedicated to prevention, the Decathlon multisport area, the Associazione Sportiva Edison area, as well as the stage and registration desk, which will open at 2:00 pm. From 4:00 pm, all the activities will begin, accompanied by music from DiscoRadio with DJ Fabio Marelli.
Then, at 7:30 pm, the run will begin along a completely pedestrian route, ensuring maximum safety: it is a 5 km loop that can be completed once or twice. The spirit of the event is to encourage people to run simply for the pleasure of running, so participants can even decide how many kilometres they want to complete while they are taking part.
Finally, I would like to highlight the five WOW points dedicated to Monzino, Ricoh, Decathlon and CityLife, as well as the one inside the Shopping District, which the route will pass through again this year.”
Gabriele Valli, Deathlon Key Accout Manager B2B Milano, said: “I would like to thank the organisers for involving us in what has now become an iconic event, with which we share values such as sport, wellbeing, fun and prevention. Our participation allows us to further reinforce what we believe in: bringing people together through the wonders of sport and making sport accessible to everyone as a driver of wellbeing.”
A symbol to wear
Giving shape and colour to the event is the renewed collaboration with Decathlon, which has created the official event apparel and race pack with a stylistic choice designed to give even greater impact to the awareness message at the heart of the initiative.
Each participant will receive a technical T-shirt and matching bag in a vivid, passionate red, the symbolic colour of heart health. The design is no coincidence: the Night Run Monzino logo comes to life on the chest, with the central silhouette of a heart surrounded by an echo of smaller hearts, visually representing the rhythm of one great collective heartbeat.
Route and registration
The start is scheduled for 7:30 pm. The recreational run is open to everyone and requires neither sports federation membership nor a medical certificate. Participants can choose whether to run or walk the 5 km or 10 km routes through the Milan park.
Online registration is open until 11:59 pm on Thursday, September 3. Places are limited to 1,500 participants (excluding children under 14). A reduced fee is available for children born between 2011 and 2019 and includes the race pack without the T-shirt. On Saturday, September 5, if race bibs are still available, participants will also be able to register directly at the Villaggio Gara.
Event programme
On Saturday, September 5, CityLife Park will host the “Villaggio del Cuore” in Piazza Tre Torri Alta. From 4:00 pm, participants will be able to collect their race kits and register, while taking part in a range of health and prevention activities organised by Centro Cardiologico Monzino, alongside sports activities with Decathlon.
From 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm, Disco Radio will broadcast live from the stage with Fabio Marelli, followed by the Warm Up from 7:00 pm to 7:15 pm and the start of the run at 7:30 pm. Entertainment with Disco Radio will continue from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm, followed by a DJ set from 10:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
Participants will also be entitled to a special 10% discount at the following food outlets in CityLife Shopping District: PokeHouse and Calavera. To receive the discount, participants simply need to show proof of registration for Monzino Night Run by presenting their race bib.
